Hey, Congrats to Jackman taking 1st with the broken elbow! Congrats to Corey, I knew sooner or later you'd get ahead of me. Congrats to Hughes, That was a workout!
It was great seeing everyone I already know and great meeting everyone new to our slalom scene. As far as newbies go, if you guys could handle that awkward red course for your first race, you're doing well.
Those were some great challenging courses, I really REALLY like that big offset turn from the beginning section into the right-hand red lane. I think the white course (maybe the red) had one of those really diabolical John Stryker-esque neg-offset gimmie cones that you don't see coming up since it's hidden and not obvious and then you go through it and it's so subtle it makes you second guess yourself "Hey, did I just DQ, what was that all about?". I totally dug that lane change format and the courses.
Pat - It was fun riding with you both ways, good idea.
James's run on the red scooter was the Bomb!

I'm sure whoever is able will ride both races. Lots of new interest forming...

hey john we will not be doing a race on a public road, it will likely be in a school parking lot or on the bikepath. we have 7 or 8 locals if not more who are going to compete, and the race will likely be set similar to yours, just a timer and cones. we wil chose a spot that is very unlikely to get us shut down, which in canada is not a big issue anyways, less private security etc.
we will be checking out the spot i had in mind tommorow night and we should know by the weekend

Thanks John for the great race. Everyone had a really great time. Congrats to the Jackhammer 1st place once again- broken arm and he still kicks AXE!!! This race had a lot of new faces, it was nice to meet all the guys from Vancouver, Poulsbo, and Bremerton.Really nice to see Councilman Chris Raezer back on a board also! Let all do this again soon, I can't wait for a second serving. Brad and I are down for the Sunday Secret Session (SSS) in Portland. Anyone else thinking about going down let us know, maybe we can all carpool or caravan down. Probably leaving early Sunday morning.
Good Luck to the Roes -Gareth, Ian, and Nathan Have great time in Colorodo at the Nationals. See ya when you get back

Combo plate format
|
On 8/14/2006 Pat Chewning

The combo plate featured the following format:
A single-lane course was set up with a set of orange (common) cones right after the single start switch. Then the course split into the White (left) course and the Red (right) course. The white and red courses were deliberately different (#of cones, spacing, offsets, everything). The course then joined back together for a final set of common orange cones and the single finish line.
So there were two ways through the course (red branch or white branch). Each racer ran one at a time and alternated runs through each branch. At the end of the day you had 4 RED runs and 4 WHITE runs. Take the best RED run and add it to the best WHITE run for the final time.
A real fun format, even if a few people forgot and went down the wrong branch -- oops! The course was pre-set and John ("I'll kick your ass") Stryker kept the race moving right along.
Next year's suggestion: Run the combo with a spreadsheet-based scoring system so the final results can be tablulated more quickly. Other than that, the race went VERY smoothly.

Hey, I'm planning on leaving Corvallis Saterday evening after I get off work some time between 7pm-8pm. I'll either stay at someone's house Saterday night in the Portland area and carpool with them Sunday morning unless anyone wants to go all the way to Seattle Saterday evening and stay at James Peter's house Saterday night. I also have to call ScottybobSonic tonight(Friday) when I get home. Any Ideas/offers? - Paul

to see and hear that James is skating skateparks now. You are 100% skateboarder. Looking forward sessioning a park with you soon. You all have fun at the combo plate, I wish it wasn't the same weekend as the Trifecta down here. I am hearing rumors of Hosoi being in town as well as others and am looking forward to just lurking and taking some pictures and getting some runs in. Anything organized coming up after this weekend?
