Cool Paul, I'm hoping to get some green, and orange cones too . The Seattle guys have been laying down multiple courses, that interlink together in certain spots on the course. It's so much fun changing it up. The last session we had was 3 lanes. Hope to get another dry day to do it again.
Thanks Slalom Sk8tr (Mr. Gilmour ??) for the kind words, we do have a great group of slalomers up here, come join us here some time, we would love to skate & learn from you.

Skip, you coming up to Seattle this weekend? So the rumor mill has it...hope you can join us, I shot you a mail couple days ago but not sure if its the right address.
CSA crew, I forsee with more trips to B.C. next year, be sure you get PASSPORTS cause in January they'll be required to get back into the US!

yeah im planning to do a slalom race that weekend or the weekend afterwards on a closed hill (hopefully) im talking with the city of burnaby about it. i think we'll be able to get alot of the canada crew out from ontario quebec for it too if its on the same weekend. however danger bay isnt in vancouver and so it might be hard to plan an event in the city unless its before or afterwards. it would be cool to do a race up in pender harbour though

Sorry for the confusion, what I meant was that they should be included in the CSA race points -even tho I don't do either of those races. Maybe those can be a "specialized " race that would be run with another "regular" race afterwards like we've done in the past. And I would only run one of them each per season.If you wanted to do more, then I think you can have you own separate series with your own points. I just wanted to expand the slalom scene to other disciplines of skating to get more folks involved. We can also do longboard, cyber,slalomcross, etc.. just to name few.

yeah pat that sounds like the best plan overall. by the way I think we need to test the two other tape switches you should have a bit more before we write them off as toast (marked L1 and L2). we just have two up in seattle now but they're working fine for cyber. that time when the guys had such a hard time setting up at 'that hill' in portland, it could have been a lot of factors why they didn't work...one wire stuck in the wrong slot and the whole system won't work properly. so I still think at least the set of four switches that we had are still currently functional. we should definately have a full set for Portland / Seattle each giving us a redundant set for the 'big' events!
by the way ROBSKEY if you're checking this, I'd like some of those rain wheels you make!!

I'll investigate both tape switches and the IR switches.
My initial bias is to get tape switches and bond them to a rigid backing so they cannot get creased -- thus solving the only known drawback I know of in the tape switch vs IR beam comparisions.
I think I can buy materials for about 10 tape switches for the price of 2 IR switches .....
Once I have a proposal with more real info, I'll pass it by here for you to look at.
Don't worry about whether the $$ gets collected ahead of time or not. I can always float a loan to CSA by buying the stuff and collecting some donations/fees at future races.

OK, I'm confused did Corey's "apart of" really mean "a part of" or "yes, include the Secret SGS/GS in the CSA Series"?, because that contradicts Dave saying "apart from" which to me looks like "NOT including in the CSA Serios"?????????? But Dave Says "I'm with Corey"??????
Either way, I'm OK with the SGS/GS on that secret hill being in or not being in the CSA Series, personally I think AT LEAST ONE of those Secret Hill dates (two events in one day- is that what you guys have been doing?) should be in the CSA series for points. I keep saying I'll make it to one of them and I haven't yet but I'd like to sometime.
What is the advantage of IR(InfraRed???)Beam devices over tape switches? I would guess it would be less wear and tear and longer lifespan compared to a tapeswitch. If there is some good advantages, I'd be into dropping a few more dollars into the hat for timing equipment.
The only issue there is that we need to "pass the hat" by mail/paypal to Pat WELL BEFORE racing season starts so he(or whoever) has the money to make the purchases and time to wire everything together
-If they(IR Beams) are any more reliable(than tape switches) then I'm not for it at all since that's how I beat Gareth since I know I can fool the tape switch to not count my run and wear down Gareth like I did at Tukwilla, that's my only hope against Stryker now too. Yeah, that's it. -P

Jeff's IR beam timer worked great, I'd say we at least consider getting one and testing it a lot, it would always be reliable for single lane cyber and jams if nothing else. The only hiccups I recall were for some reason all on Corey's runs...he had a 3-second run and some other early-tripped runs, either a renegade squirrel, some leaves blowing through the IR beam, or else Corey was faster than the human eye, which is the most likely explanation...

im alright with paying entrance fee's to the races, as long as its only 10 or so dollars. i also like the idea of different classes but it wont really work without at least 20 racers.
jeff has a trackmate with the laser light box thingys and we used it for the vancouver race, it worked fine without any problems the whole time. you guys might want to consider it.

I'm with Corey on both the SGS races and park slalom races, they should be apart from the CSA races. But I'm also thinking we could easily do 5 or 6 dual event races in Portland with GS and SGS in their own series with points and have 2 of them be CSA races as well. I also think that if we ask for entry fees they should go to buying equipment for prizes for last place and newbies. To grow the scene in the northwest. As Josh said, one of our fastest racers was a recipient of Paul's generosity. If we need more cash for timing equipment we should make that a separate passing of the hat.
As for the timing systems, I am wondering if the IR beams available from Trackmate (the maker of the timer we have) would be the way to go. According to their website the IR Beams have a 40ft range and are easy to align. At $120 per lane they are in the same range as the tape switches. I think it was Jeff from Canada who mentioned them, I'd like to get his and any other's opinions on the beams. Unless this is of no interest to anyone else. Should we also look at a wireless system for whichever lane triggers we choose? We should be able to buy some or cobble them together from scratch. Anyone else want to throw in their two cents?
And speaking of two cents, I think I saw Pat playing the 2 cent slots at one of the area casinos recently, so no he did not run off to Vegas with the money. Just to the coast.

Josh, as far as I'm concerned ,I think the SGS should be apart of the CSA races, same as the park slalom race. Both of those races had alot of people sticking around for the race that followed afterwards. As I recall alot of those people were new to "regular" slalom, and it was a good way for them to check it out. As for me I'm still a wimp when it comes to downhill, and parks, But I like the turn out those races draw.

I really like the last-to-first prize breakdown. It has worked very well, and is a great incentive to race. No point in giving more to folks who don't need it. Some of our DFL prize winners are now the top guys. My vote is to continue that policy. I also like Corey's idea about the A class. If you podium at a race you are in and can't go back. Maybe a winner-take-all entry for A class?
How many are interested in the SGS races? Should they be included as CSA races, or stay how it is? The course will NOT get any easier, so it is not really a beginner race. It is nice to have the races on the same day. SGS & GS on that mountain in Portland...

Paul, you will never be able to go down into the "B" group as far as I'm concerned, unless you go into "masters" or want to be called a sandbagger. Any racer that ever podiumed in a CSA race, would be in the "A" class

PAT- I think hat's fine what you're doing, let us know if we need to collect more at races with more "pass the hat" action.
I like Corey's idea of having A Class racers put in money for their own class winnings if they want it and NOT having the B's and C's pitch in money for the A's winnings. "IF" I actually can remain in the A Class(my last few race performances were less than spectacular) I'd probably still prefer to stay out of the winnings and pitch in for the equipment for the lowest placing beginners.
