Just received the permit to use the Aumsville skateboard park for the park slalom event at the Oregon State Games.
All I need is a "duly authorized representative of CSA" to sign the document.
I guess that will be me, if at least one CSA member gives me this authorization... anyone?
This is the year I visit skateboard parks and learn to go banked... 50 isn't too old for that is it?

Thanks Shane, and James, 2 great garage sessions this weekend. I hoping next weekend we will hit the hills. Dancin Dan Fever found another spot over in Tacoma, maybe a Saturday morning session.. Who's in?
Good to see everyone at Temple Saturday night. We recognized some of 2006 skater accomplishments with some trophies. Congratulations to 2006 CSA Series Champion Brad "The Jackhammer" Jackman on his domination throughout the season. Also congratulations to "Ironman" James Peters on his long distance pumping endurance from Seattle to Portland back in July. James please post some pics I can't get them out of my camera phone.
Looking forward to the new 2007 season, can't wait til Salem in March.

For sure James, that was a blast! definetley the most people that ive ever ridden with in a seattle garage. we'll have to do it again soon!!! it was great to meet everyone to. good times.
also, i told a couple people last night, but just so everyone knows. im working on my website right now www.NORTHWESTLONGBOARDING.com . its not done except for the forum. anyways, if some of you guys could go there and make some posts/threads on the forum, that would really help me to see if there any 'bugs' that need to be worked out. let me know what you think to!
I'd also be down if the CSA wanted to have their own forum category on the site.

Pat, I'll see what I can do making some phone calls to Aumsville's City peaple about the proposed Friday night June 1st Skatepark slalom. It may take me a little while to get to it but I'll put it on my list of things to do.
Prime Vs Northwest Newbie: 2 issues here: 1)Hood River is only one month and one hundred miles away. That's 2 prime events a little too close in time and proximity by most people's thinking. I'm assuming Hood River is still happening. Gareth did entertain the idea of putting on the "West Coast Championships" in Salem last year but decided not to because Fluitt and Pirnack and a few others wanted to make a family vacation out of Hood River and do tourist things around the Gorge and MT Hood. If that is not a factor this year, it might be a good idea to contact Gareth and collaborate on that.
2)If newbies aren't brought in with smaller local events, there will be less future interest in bigger events down the road. Plus, there's almost too many big races on the national level in my opinion. Catering to newbies locally makes slalom bigger globally. Other than that, I'm not oppossed to making it a "prime" race, especially since my events in Salem are pretty low-key and newbie-friendly usually. That's my 2 cents. Adios-P

State Games: newbie or go PRIME?

I need some input from my good buddies in the CSA regarding the Oregon State Games.
I am struggling with going 2 different directions with this.
Direction #1 -- Geared towards new racers, young racers, local racers. Advantages: Fits well with State Games charter. Easier to run. Smaller. Brings in new people.
Direction #2 -- Go PRIME, go Big. Try to attract slalom racers AM and PRO to the Salem hill. Get ISSA PRIME status (World Ranking points). Fit it into State Games as best we can. Advantages: A 2nd "bigger" race for CSA. Shows off the Salem hill to other slalom racers. Attracts more and better racers from outside Oregon.
What do we say? Do we want this to be a bigger/better event for the slalom community (Direction 2) or do we want this to be for newer/local people mostly (Direction 1)? Can it possibly be both?
The most immediate thing that this affects is whether or not I try to get a PRIME status assigned to this race. (If it does not get that status, we probably won't see anyone from outside of CSA -- Washington/Oregon/B.C. )

More wire. Help me Oregon State Games

Yes Dave, I agree that more wire would be good. I'll get 2 reels and beg for more $$ later .....
Yes, I can definitely use the following help. Anyone who wants to, please email me with your interest and I'll coordinate (so we never have one job undone, or 2 people working on a 1-man job).
Jobs (sorted by chronological need): A) Sponsor coordinator: Beg sponsors for merchandise or whatever, seek new sponsors. Gather merchandise. Give it away at event (raffle, whatever). Thank the sponsors after the event.
B) Skate park slalom coordinator: Try to arrange for Aumsville skate park slalom event. Talk to parks people. Talk to organizers of other park events. Coordinate thru me with Oregon State Games. Target date is Friday evening June 1st.
C) Advertising: Take the posters that I can print and send them to skate shops, parks, sporting goods stores, snowboard stores, ski areas, etc. Any place we can reach skaters who are not yet in the slalom family.
D) Set the courses and clean the hill.
E) Bring a PA system, set it up.
F) Find and train some coneheads. Other races have used: Boy Scouts, Hooters girls, spectators, etc. Maybe do this more professionally this year with the "flip charts" of numbers rather than holding up cones....
G) A race anouncer ... (for the PA system)
In case it is not obvious, I plan for the event to be bigger and better this year. Help and suggestions are very welcome.

Tape switches, Oregon Games and Brad

Pat, the tape switch solution will give us enough for 2 complete sets of timing equipment, sounds perfect. Do you want the switches I have for rewiring? Is one roll of wire enough? I can come up with more cash for another reel. Let me know.
Thanks for making the Oregon Games happen again! Let me know what help you need, it's yours!
I agree with Paul, we need to set some cones and soon. Rumor has it that Thor is turning left and right at WSU on occasion. Keep an eye out for dry pavement.

Hey, good to hear the elbow healed well, nothing worse than a joint that doesn't heal right. Well, there are worse things but that's bad enough.
Sorry to hear about your friend Greg Tai(sp?), I assume you knew him to some extent at least. It was good seeing the pictures of Greg(Rene Carrasco posted) with you in the picture and your "fro" back in the 70's. I think you and Mollica are related, same build, same height and weight, similar riding styles, same hair back then and now.

TAPE SWITCHES AND TIMER STUFF - Sounds good to me, Thanks for the effort.
NIGHTTIME PARK SLALOM - If you are thinking about doing it as part of the State Games event, the best choice is to hold it at Aumsville, Oregon because it is illuminated at night and a big interconnected design. The best people to contact would likely be the Aumsville Parks-n-Rec (if they have one, it's a small farming town), or the Aumsville City Council. I know that the City of Aumsville is supportive of skateboarding and the skatepark and giving kids something to do and is VERY burned out on dickweed dumbs#@! kids that start fights and do stupid stuff around town and at the skatepark so they might view a night time Park-slalom event as a good thing.

CSA timing equipment purchase

I propose to do the following with the $225 we collected for timing equipment:
1000' Silver-Satin wire $32.50
Wire reel $15.00 Wire reel $15.00
RJ 11 connectors 100-pack $5.85 RJ 11 connectors 100-pack $5.85
131A 2ft tape switch $27.10 131A 2ft tape switch $27.10 131A 2ft tape switch $27.10 131A 2ft tape switch $27.10 131A 2ft tape switch $27.10 131A 2ft tape switch $27.10
Shipping $30.00
T OTAL $236.80
I propose to bond the tape switches to a sheet-metal backing plate to protect them. They will be taped down to the road surface on the sheet-metal only, so that the stress of taping/untaping and storing cannot kink them.
I propose to rewire the existing tape switches for easier connection.
I propose to do all of this by the end of February.
If I don't hear any better suggestions or objections, I will start this in 1 week.
NOTE: The tape switches will all be 2-feet long. Does anyone see a problem with this?
NOTE: some of the costs are estimates only (shipping, reels). I'll update with actual costs later.

Pat- With regards to the Park Slalom - Thor, Stryker and others locally have put on Park Slalom events are sure to lend a hand! Also, Chris Barker and the other COSS guys would be a good source of information. The Park Slalom at the US Nationals in Longmont. CO last August were a great event and there were tons of people watching!
Let us all know what we need to do to help with the Oregon State Games. Last years event, while under-attended, was still one of my favorites. Can't wait to do it again!
Thanks for doing all the hard work and making the State Games happen again in 2007! Gareth
