Hey Cat, Just like James 'sez, travel light, us CSA regulars will(should) bring enough cones.
Wyoming Weather- I really do miss that wind, cold, and the big spring time snowstorms. We don't really have "winter" here, we have to drive to it which is the price I pay I guess. When I lived in Montana, I did more backpacking trips on snowshoes in the winter than in the summer most years.
57 signups at last count!!!! This is unreal.
Just so everyone knows, I'll spell it out again, I want this event to be heavy on actually RIDING one's skateboard through the cones. If timing on one lane is wanted and newbies want to see how they are doing, I'm for that. But I still want more riding than waiting. And eating, and blabbing, and dialing in the newbies gear. I just don't see this super-tight flat 35 cone'r happening, too much on the plate already. But, I'll do it if it works in.
Thanks for everyone's support and input. -P

Hmm, 55 signups, cool!
Major Status: Nope, too late and it's heavy on the newbie side and low on the big-name racer side, besides, that KILLS the whole idea of a BBQ fun slalom session for the newbies. Plus that means REAL racing, which means too much standing around for me.
Flat Super tight challenge - I'll do it but with 55 signups, BBQ and newbie clinic and some people wanting to do single lane racing, I seriously doubt it will happen, I'm counting on it NOT happening but I'll set a course if anyone really wants to and if you guys on the timer don't nickle and dime the afternoon away racing on one of the main courses. I'm not holding my breath on it.
Start doing the no-rain dancing if you haven't already - P

Just a heads up. A couple of us went to WSU on Sunday and were asked to leave by security and were told that their new policy is to not allow skateboarding anywhere on campus anytime. We politely left and then went to hop the fence at the new Battle Ground park, thats a different story.

Malcolm, I'd have to agree with Pat.Ramps would be to obstructive for an Outlaw Race. The idea of an outlaw is to be able to pick up and move quickly to another location is case of a bust.Try and get permission to close the road you want to use.I only do outlaw races when I can't get permission. It's a last resort for me.See Ya in Salem. I've never been to an outlaw event that used ramps. I would imagine that it is not a good idea because they block the road more permanently than cones do.

Paul, With 53 people entered this could Qualify for" Major Race" Status. You might want to check into that.I'll bring my leaf blower, decks to sell, some loaner and some new stuff too.As far as the starting ramps goes. It would be up to Tim or Corey to help out. I don't have a truck to transport them.I'll be heading down early on Sunday Morning. As fas as your "Challenge". That's a bit tight for me.I'll give it a practice try or two, then decide if I'll put my money in.I do better on bigger courses.Gotta Go Faster,Faster, Must Go Faster! See Ya. John

BBQ Super-Tight Flat Challenge

Hmm, I had'nt thought the betting part all the way through.
OK, here's the deal:
1) I'll do it if the timer is setup on the flat portion at the bottom of the hill, Are you guys willing to stop the other racing to do this dinky challenge event? Will there be time to move the timer and reset it? If you guys are game, I'm game - this will be the best chance to get me due to my ailments but I will make you work for it to beat me, you know it used to be my main game before I had to stop doing it and I'm setting the course JUST LIKE WHAT I DESCRIBED EARLIER. Better take a multivitamin and have a strong cup of coffee before hand and do some jumping jacks. Also, here's 2 cents worth: Radikal or Bennett up front 13-15 pos wedge, 18" wb or shorter, camber will likely not be your friend unless you board goes flat/nuetral when you stand on it. OK, that should be enough free help for now.
2) 25 foot start before the first cone unless there is a start ramp. I'm not putting up with achilles tendonitis in my push foot ankle anymore with that 15 foot or less stuff. I'll push start if we don't use a ramp, but anyone who wishes to run-and-jump-on-start(like I had to in the past due to my achilles tendon) is allowed to as far as I'm concerned. Crossing the first tape switch starts the timer, single lane against-the-clock will be the format. 3-5 runs each participant. 1/10th of a second per cone time penatly. Noone will get a clean run, I guarantee it, or the course is too easy. Best time wins.
3) Seeing how I'm paying for food out of my own pocket and it will drain me, I am only putting up one single payout of $35.oo as a prize to whoever wins with the fastest run of raw time plus cone penalty score, winner take all OR I will donate it into the CSA fund for future use or to help pay expenses incurred on the timing system or whatever IF the winner wishes it to go in that direction. Otherwise you guys can put your bets however you want them, but I am only paying the winner if it's not me. Also, if there is ANY SALEM PARKS OFFICE STAFF present, DO NOT GO TALKING ABOUT CASH BETS OR THAT COULD KILL OUR USE OF THE HILL!!!!
4) Want to up the ante? Anyone want to put up an entry fee into this dinky challenge and all proceeds go to donate to Chintimini Wildlife Rehab Center in Corvallis?
5) I want to emphasize my time/attention to the newbies so I'd prefer to do this early or late (or maybe in the middle) but short enough to not take up too much time. With 52 signups and entropy riding on a strong horse, We'll see what happens -P

Paul, are you saying that I can put up $35 and you will beat anyone who challenges you?
That is: I win $35 if ANYONE beats you. You win $35 if you beat EVERYONE.
If so, then I'm in for $35

No, No Pauli--- I never said I didn't want to race. I said I wasn't looking forward to standing around--- that was in reference to the timing systems not working and the disorganization of slalom contests.
I will be there if it doesn't rain or snow. We are all going to have a great time--- it's going to be a pleasure meeting all the CSA people.
Get ready for BASA---- we will be REPRESENTIN'!

Hmm, Cat? I thought you were one of the people who wanted to SKATE more and be waiting around less and not "racing", OK, race on, we'll make the 18 hour drive for you -and the Vancouverites from BC- worth your collective whiles or my name isn't Pauliwog(actually it's not but we'll go with it). I will be stoked to see all of you(all you new faces and all the old ones!!!
Here's the deal, as King of the BBQ I thus proclaim:
1) We'll Set 2 separate and different courses as per annual tradition of this magnanomous event. 2) The BBQ(s) will be fired and cooking 3) This event will STILL BE FOR THE NEWBIES -as will most of my attention/energy 4) A single timer WILL BE ALLOWED ON ONE LANE ONLY Jam Format(dual-lane racing and switching lanes with 51+ people will take too much time and kill it for those who wish to learn and are still new to the cone thing and want to just have a slalom session) - I would like the "lane of choice" to be the people's choice. 5) Let's go AT LEAST ONE HOUR WITHOUT THE TIMER so newbies get plenty of opportunity to ride the big open fast G/S lane and the techy General lane. It would be preferable if the timed run of choice were left still open to non-racers who wish to practice their skills on that particular run. 6) I hereby delegate setting and running the timer and keeping times to those who wish to race and run the racing portion as I will be busy BBQ-ing and attending to the newbies and Chewning will be chill'in and riding for a change instead of running the timer for everyone else. Long Live the Choochoo. 7) I can't think of anything else but whatever it is, it's law because I say so. And I'm King. 8) Oh yeah ,TIME THIS: I got $35.oo that says I can take anyone on a flat course of 35(or more if you want) cones, 4' centers on the straight stinger sections plus S-curves, offsets, gimmies, pyramids, mixed rythem and no cones more than 7 feet apart on the biggest offsets, most cones ranging 4.5' to 5.5' center to center. Due to injuries and other events I haven't done this type of course for 6 months until last week. I've got a dislocated/dislocating 4th left rib(again) and it hurts like hell(like a hot nail in my back) to do this flat super-tight stuff and a nueroma in my right foot. I'll even eat soap so I have diarrhea on top of that, ummm, maybe not go that far. Any takers? I wish Luca or Smokestack Levine could be here for this, that would be awesome to see.
OK, As long as it does'nt rain out, so shall it be - Thanks, P
