What a great day of slalom this past Saturday. It was fun skating with so many people. Thanks for all the pointers guys & thanks again to Judi for letting me ride her Roe short unlimited, I had a major epiphany that day! Definitely time to upgrade the Black Hill. I gotta get me that exact same set-up, Judi! Roe Racing here I come! Hopefully Sharon (the lady who stopped to watch us) will be a new slalom recruit-- she certainly was stoked! See ya'll on the 25th, weather permitting.

Try out a skate scepter FREE
On 11/15/2006 Will wrote in from United States  (66.245.nnn.nnn)

Some people asked to try a skate scepter out so this event has been put together for you. It's local, in Palo Alto, CA and it's comming soon!

Try a SkateScepter for FREE. Whats a Skate Scepter? It's cool portable device that pushes you on your skateboard. ANY type of skate board. And it will push you up hills too! No modifications to your board needed since you just hold it in your hands in while in your natural stance on your skate. Squeeze the throttle and away you go. Black Diamond Sports in Palo Alto has graciously decided to host a Demo Day with Brown Tooth Innovations LLC so people can try a Skate Scepter. Bring your own HELMET and BOARD and ride at your own risk.

Location: Palo Alto, CA (rain or shine since it's in a covered garage)
DATE: Tuesday November 21
TIME: 7:00 PM

e-mail me for more info and directions, skateking@skatescepter DOT com or visit www.skatescepter.com

Hi HC,

Yeah you can try it out. In fact I might be setting someting up with BDS(Black Diamond Sports). Some sort of demo day. I'll keep you posted. Or if you just want to meet somewhere some time that would work too. I'm in Livermore but willing to travel a wee bit =).

Del Valle
On 11/6/2006 William wrote in from United States  (66.245.nnn.nnn)

So I tried a bit of the Del Valle road this weekend. It was pretty fun. But the pavement isn't the best(as stated by other boarders). It's basically smooth but there is some gravel on the shoulders. It would really suck to take a spill on it. I need to try it on a REAL longboard now, anyone got one I can borrow? =) I got lots of google eyed looks from drivers as I skated up the hill with my Skatescepter.

Yeah I'm here professor Marin . Well it's a wee far for you to travel but it's in my back yard =) Actually I have never tried skating down the hill but I will be in a few days. It's Del Valle Rd. A 1.6 mile ride down to an awesome county road runout with only one "T, hardly ever anyone there" intersection.

On 10/8/2006 Cat wrote in from United States  (69.106.nnn.nnn)

GGP was awesome today!
Sunny, 77 degrees, Bluegrass music playing on the other side of the park & the Blue Angels flying overhead. We could not have asked for a better San Francisco day!
Thanks to Rich again for bringing cones-- I finally got mine in the mail, but it was nice to have more added-- you can never have too many cones.
It was nice meeting everyone-- Nordski, Bruce (Sultan of Style!), Eric, Jason, and Matt from San Diego. Happy birthday Jason-- don't get too crazy tomorrow!
Look for our pics to be posted at a later date. I still have the old school camera where you actually have to take it for developing-- what can I say, I still skate my old Bahne! Why fix it if it ain't broke!

Carpool and arrive a little early

May be a good idea to carpool together and arrive a little early for Sunday's GGP session. Parking could take a while with the big Strictly Blue Grass Concert going on that day. Anyone going from East Bay that wants a ride with me, email me by Friday.

GGP Sunday Slalom Session -- October 8th
On 10/3/2006 Rich Sayers wrote in from United States  (64.168.nnn.nnn)

It's on this weekend! Golden Gate Park Sunday Slalom Session -- Oct 8th starting at 2pm, ending by 5pm. Weather forecast is great -- peak temp of 72°F.

We will set up 2 courses-- a loose hybrid slalom that's easy to run and a tight slalom that starts at 5' 10" center-to-center and ends at 5' 2" spacing.

click here for directions and the secret parking spot

So far four skaters are confirmed-- two women and two men -- let's see if we can grow the ladie's slalom in SF Bay Area! I'm also emailing some folks and posting this on BullDogSkates.com forum, so should be a well-attended session.

Judi's Slalom Clinic
On 10/1/2006 Miko wrote in from United States  (67.150.nnn.nnn)

I'd just like to thank Judi for taking the initiative to stoke kids in our area and try to grow slalom. By the end of the session, it was really cool to see kids that could barely turn when they started actually jamming through the cones!

The barbeque later at Judi's house was great, and it was a nice reunion of the Midtown crew with Gary and Victoria there. I guess super-newbie Drew qualifies as a Midtown guy as well and he's getting fast! Watch out open class . . .

Later on another slalom session broke out in front of Judi's house and my son, Jackson may become a part of the cone crew yet! (he's a confirmed biker dangit, but he was stoked to get a chance to run some cones. Thanks so much for encouraging him Judi!)

I'd like to add a final thanks to Chris Chaput for the wheel flow up to Judi and the Norcal crew . . . I now have a set of 66mm and 70mm Zig Zags to test and enjoy.

Thanks for everything Judi—great clinic and I look forward to the next classes.

Begining Slalom Skateboard Class Sept. 30
On 10/1/2006 Judi O wrote in from United States  (69.111.nnn.nnn)

The beginning slalom class was a success!

Thanks to Gary Holl, John Hutson, Miko, Drew and John Ravitch!

11 students from ages 8-20 learned how to skate through cones. They were stoked by the end of the class and were all making the course we had set. It was the first beginning class I'd ever taught and it was great to have help from Gary Holl, John Hutson, Miko, Drew and John Ravitch (back from a month in Africa). The kids got a bag of swag and a certificate of completion signed by each instructor at the of the 2 1/2 hour class. A PowerBar bag with a few bars, a Session T shirt, Indy hat, stickers from Bill's Wheels, Skateworks and a Santa Cruz Skate Shop free t shirt coupon on a custom made discount fly-er for Bill's and Skateworks. Don't do it and Santa Cruz stickers, button...Santa Cruz DVD. Next Spring we will do a two weekend class and split it up in beginning and intermediate. Also Cliff Coleman and Miko will help me teach a Slide Clinic. Cliff travels the world teaching slide clinics these classes will be through Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation if approved I submit paper work this Friday. I will try and find a better location that has more of an incline and a good run off. Thanks Gavin Denike from videoing the class.

All the feedback forms were positive and the parents asked if we would do it again. We had a few requests for a longer class and different location. This was the best location I had to choose from since I was given two days to write and submit the class. It was the first skateboard class they have ever offered and they weren't sure what kind of place I would need. I already started scouting around for a new spot.

Thanks again and see you next week on that hill in SSJ.

Judi O
