Is there anywhere to get original baseplates (three holes only) for these things. I have my original plates (anybody who had a pair of these suckers knows how bizarre that is) but would like to get a backup set so I can use them without worrying. These are my all time favourite trucks (wish I could get some cushions, too). The pair I have are a matched set: that is the writing on the front and back trucks reads correctly rightway up on both when the nose is pointed up (that is unless you mount them the other way, then tail up. I just received a set of these from Alan Sidlo... these are early 70's strap on rollerskates made by Tracker. The feature rivited on half-tracks.
Super clean... looks like they have never been riden. I had planned on taking them apart to use the trucks, but they are way too clean and way to bitchen to do anything like that with!
I'll be posting up some pics real soon.
Does anyone remember these things? If so, what wheels were featured on the ad's for them?
Amazing... 4 perfect half tracks and too bitchen to use!!
I won't brag about the price because Alan insisted that I steal them from him! What a guy!

Gullwing Cruisers? Not quite the real thing

Those newfangled Gullwing Cruisers are interesting, but as PSR said, they're more Randal than HPG. They don't seem to offer anything from my list of unique attributes of the original Gullwing and Phoenix. Thanks for the heads-up though, Pre-School.

I talked to the owners of ACS late last year, and asked if they were going to start manufacturing trucks again. They told me that while they won't be putting out anything under their own name again, they do the manufacturing for several other companies (but wouldn't say who...)

The original Gullwing Trucks (that most refer to as HPG IV, or Split-axled Gullwings) and their younger sibling, the Phoenix Truck, offered easily replaceable component part construction (easily replaceable kingpins, independent axle pegs, etc.), relatively separate control over truck tensioning, as well as hanger angle, all in new, strong and lightweight materials. They were originally designed by a man named Walter Tiege, who, aside from being a great guy and a personal hero of mine, is, very apparently, a genius.

I'm feeling rather randy this morning and thought I'd post my feelings on the Gullwing line of trucks. They may be the best ever made. I cannot fault them in any way. Even the conventional trucks were better than most. Better than Tracker sixtracks and extracks [I have a set on my Andrecht. But the HPG IV's and the Phoenix' have yet to be topped. Randals are getting there but not quite. Their design is close to the HPG's and the Phoenix but executed with less style. I say Gullwing brings back those designs and let the riders do the talking for em. I bought a pair of NOS Phoenix which have yet to arrive from England. But when they get here they are going right on my G&S slalom deck. I've never owned a set of Phoenix but expect that they'll be everything I hope and maybe more. I've owned several pairs of HPG's [albeit a long time ago] but my memory is excellent and I remember them being the best I could get. I'll always have Gullwings somewhere in my quiver. Would that we all could afford some. Bring em back Gullwing and the debate can end.
A loyal Gullwing trucker.

I have a couple of questions regarding some older gear.
I have an old Bahne with a pair of ACS 800 on them and I was wondering if anyone had any information on these trucks. I have had this board for quite a while and over the years I have forgotten the history of these trucks.
I am also looking for 1 vintage Tracker Fulltrack? (6 7/8" axle)to restore another old board.
Thanks, Deano

initially this truck saw quite a bit of pool and skatepark action,Martinez,Marker ect,(i have an ad in front of me)it's apparent no hang design certainly looked like it would be cool for rolling over and in on coping and other lips.

Gullwing Pro/SST and Phoenix

Back in either '76 or '77,Gullwing brought out a 'conventional' truck design, the SST,and a wider variant, the Pro.The Phoenix,by comparison, had the kingpin go through the hanger between the axle and pivot, and was a narrower version of the HPG iv,but without the split axles. Both the SST and the Phoenix were marketed towards the freestyle crowd, while the Pro was for Pools. The HPG iv was the 'slalom' truck, but due to the quick turning design that the phoenix shared with the HPG,it also was/is used for slalom often. Just to make things more confusing,in the '80's,Gullwing made two conventional designs for wide pool boards, called the Phoenix and Pro III.

Thanks Lonecore! The last time I checked in at that site, they only showed Fulltrackers with B-2 baseplates. I had assumed that the ACS trucks were NOS that had gone out the door. The board selection there is awesome! You can pick the length and flex of slalom board, and even a few longer pintails, too.

Pre-school Rider,
visit www.noway.ch, click "Noway Zurich" in the left frame. Then click "Trucks" in the right frame and scroll down. The ACS cost 32 sFr. or about 20$ a piece. Email the people from Noway skateshop for more info.

Lonecore,I was under the impression that ACS had pretty much focused it's attention back onto bicycles after the C4 had been produced. It could be that someone at ACS is still putting out trucks. If that's so,I want two sets-Original Lites and 800 Lites! My 'newest' ACS trucks are 950's,which date back to '83 or so.They're excellent longboard trucks, and are on my TVS 48",and almost out turn my wife's Randal R-2's!

Are you saying that the new ACS651 (they are still produced and can be buyed here in Switzerland) aren't "original"? Couldn't it just be that the fabrication has been changed because most decks now have the new pattern?

Pre school,
Forgot about the other single hole, my originals have 9 holes like you mention, i have recently picked up another set which has 6 holes only, the four traditional old school pattern plus 2 others at the same centres but a bit closer to the "common pair" but i dont think they match up with "new school" patterns

ACS baseplates

On 5/30/2001 Pre-School Rider

(209.198.nnn.nnn)
Paul,Dom,ACS bases have 9 holes in them,if they're the "pro" version(you'll find many Ebay 430's and 500's with the cheaper, small four hole pattern). What happened was that there were two four hole patterns around in the early seventies, one large(our "old school" pattern)and one small(used on many poly and 'glass boards, and almost always on Nash/Ampul junkers),plus the good ol' Chicago three-holed pattern(which used two of the "large" holes up by the pivot, and one hole inboard of the kingpin).Look at older riser pads(like Rad Pads),and you'll see that same multiplicity of holes, just to accommodate any truck you might own. So,if your "ACS" bases have only 6 holes, two being right for 'new-school' boards, then they're not original. If the base is smaller than anything that's out now, with four holes(roughly 1-1/4"X 1-5/8")in it,it's an ACS(well, maybe)but not original on 580's,650's,651's,Lites,or 800's.If it has 9 holes, then it's the right baseplate.
