Hey, Does anyone have an opinion on the better bearing, either Bones Super 6, Swiss; or the Pleasure Tool Abec 7 Sealed or their Abec 7 ceramic. any input would really rock the house. Thanks Tom

yes, I was wondering about ultra effecient bearings a few weeks ago. I wonder if such bearings will ever be available for boarding...surely not for some time, if ever.

i dont want to cloud the issue or anything but today i walked over to my universitys engineering school for a nose around. they had these pressure bearings on test, they were a sealed unit with the unamed lubricant (polyurea based ?)pressure injected (at around 360 kgf.cm-2 i think dont quote me) into the case so the bearing never touched the case. it was too big for wheels but what an idea, the thing was spinning with nearly no impedance.

Personally, I'd get Swiss Bones. But I'm no expert.
Pleasure Tools are a great deal, but I haven't noticed any great difference between PT Abec 7s (sealed and/or shielded) and other good bearings, such as China Bones.
I will say that, so far, the sealed PTs are holding up well on Maine roads in February -- which is saying something. I haven't taken the "winter beater" board out a whole lot, but my past experience is that the slightest exposure to road salt (which permeates the paved environment here until April or so) causes bearings to seize up pretty quickly. No problem thus far with the sealed PTs.

Never ridden the PT ceramics but have ridden some of their others, very nice. Check the archives for more, lots of info in em'. Sorry don't know on the spacers.

Thanks for the tip, but has anyone actually ridden these, especially the PT ceramics? This Hugh r guys seems to know alot or Herbn? What whould be better bones 6 ball or PT ceramics? Is there a better choice than these two, for about $50? and what works on Gravity super G's, 8mm spacers? the 10mm's are too big.

Minimizers on cherrys

Rich, your problem is common, but the minimizers will have another headache: the spacers supplied with them won't fit cherrys. The adapters that go with them make the space between the bearings wider than normal, it might be 14mm when the kit is installed on cherrys (12 plus 2), in which case you can use two old busted bearing centers (7mm each). I'm pretty sure your net width will be 2mm less than regular bearigs. Herbn would know for sure.

What is your veiw on Ninja Mini-misers. How long will they last and is it worth buying a set. I'm asking because when i put my cherry's on a set of RII's or Downhills the nuts dont even make it onto the nylon - which is bad, i know because i had a wheel come off at about 35km - not fun.
any info is good info

I spent about an hour on the phone today with the oust man... From his explanations (which he brought down to my level... the guys sharp) I do beleive that he has a product that may actually be a technilogical improvement over current bearings.
I am hoping to have a few sets of these to put up on my site in the very near future... more to come... HR

I too have been riding the oust bearings and I can tell you there as fast as it gets.I know that the races have been designed differently then anything that's available and the designer has a patent pending on the design so that's all I can say about that.I know he has tested the oust bearings against many of the top bearings and the oust out performed them all.I'm sure he will release some of the results later on.As for them being all hype well I've tried lot's of different bearings over the years and these are the best I've ever road. And Richy C. he's the 360 king and he's a big dude that guy put's more torque on a set of bearings than anyone I know. When Richy says these things are fast he's not hyping you up he's just letting you know there's a new bearing out there that's fast as *#@%!.So befor you go and start trashing oust and calling them just another quick buck johnny come lately bearing company try rideing the bearings and then talk your trash. If anything this is the first company that hasn't just bought a new box/container and sourced bearings with your "special cool name" on the sheild, lets put them in dime bags,we can have panama reds, accopulco golds, hawaian whatever, "oh yippy i'm in the skateboard business"

what about fluid-dynamic bearings? the likes of which they are using in newer hard drives? No metal-to-metal contact. Almost certainly not sturdy enough for boarding i guess. and yes i know this is all very impractical...just pondering the future...

"Frictionless"

On 2/11/2002 Duane

There's a Nobel Prize in that one, for beating the laws of physics...low friction with magnetics and air are in common use, in VERY expensive machinery. Not practical at this point for small, light applications. The best estimates I've seen put bearing friction at something like 2% of total drag in racing situations (bike data), make them twice as good, only cut total 1%. Better to warm your urethane wheels up 30 degrees prior to the race, work on your tuck, or gain 5 pounds

frictionless bearings?

On 2/10/2002 ryan

when do you think they will get to the point of absolutely frictionless bearings? A bearing that has a magnetic field sepperation between the races or some sort of air seal? i was playing with some pullies in my physics class the other day that are "frictionless" (not really, just very low friction) and i starting pondering how to make a bearing that is REALLY frictionless. hmm... i'll stop babbling now.
