I'm leaving tomorrow evening for the Outlaw Ditch Races. I couldn't be more excited to skate some kick ass ditches than I am right now. I've never gone around a cone on a banked wall before it should be interesting. Hopefully the cone skating and the vert skating and the surfing will pay off...and I do mean PAY. I've got a quiver of 4 completes and 3 decks I'm bringing and also a whole crapload of wheels.
Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it.

Wow... after at least 4 months of hijacked homepage... NO ncdsa.com at home due to some trojan horse or ??? I've finally backed everything up and reformatted my drive, and here it all is again. I've sorely MISSED everyone and wow... what a start to the season with the Paris races and heavey rep'ing by US riders. So awesome! I wish I could have been there.
I've ridden very little slalom lately, but have been bombing Bonny Doon Rd. and a few other sweet select high-speed slide zones. I sometimes run my Radikal equipped ICK Retro Flattie GS ride in the 30-40 zone on these same roads to keep the gs thing tuned. Hope to make it to Maryhill but it's looking quite grim financially. Gotta get to a few races this year if I can.
Happy birthday to John Ravitch and the original wildman, Charlie Ransom!
It's GREAT to be back!

I tried the Super Sized Manx, but they just don't seem to have the same pop for me that the smaller ones do.
I've recently been doing some 3dm wheel testing with positive results. More as it develops.

WOW! PD is back? That is great news! Paul is already known as one of the greatest slalom skaters in history...EVERYONE knew he was THE man to beat when he was racing. PD, welcome back, (as if you were ever really gone). Surfers have the best style-we just can't help it-ha, ha. Looking forward to seeing some head to head MM vs. PD or Pupil vs. Master...hey, Paul, check out Maysey's ConeKiller's when you see him next-I think you just might like em'... If not, I'm sure you'll plike the new template that MM and I are working on right now. Good on ya' PD! Later..

Hey Mike, it's tall and relatively young Henry J here. I sent you a quick email, so check that. I will be in Denmark this summer for a long time so the Stockholm race looks doable for me. It would be cool to see you there!

Mike,
Life is great! I skate most days. An average day would include about 9 to 18 miles of Downhill. It keeps me in shape and hopefully ready for the Downhill race I'm entering, Danger Bay at Pender Harbor, BC. I'm really looking forward to racing that course and the corner they have named, "Carnage Corner". It's a hard left and should suit me just fine. A few of the entrants will be 40 years younger than me. I'm going there to try and school them :)
Paul Dunn,
Show up for the Slide Clinic in San Luis Obispo, scheduled for Saturday, May 14th. Info on the "Cliff Coleman on Sliding and Safety" page.
Mike,
You still have a standing invitation to stay at my place when in town.

Retired after being spanked in Breck by the same guy who spanked him in '88. or was it '89.(Hollien)
If SOMEONE had called us in '01 the retirement might have been sooner.
Love Ya PD.
Get your ass back to the fray. We miss you

PS. NORAD has been tracking a black object that resembles a skateboard re-entering the atmosphere. The tragectory has been tracked back to somewhere in Colorado as a destination point.

Right on Cliff,
Who can forget the man with a tuck named after him! I have a very vivid memory of when us Cen-Cal kids went to The Capitola Classic and legends like you two guys (plus Goldie, Paco Prieto, etc.) were fearing us all. What a great time. I was just driving down the race hill in Capitola (Monterey Ave.) about two weeks ago. It brought back a ton of memories...
As far as your offer Maysey -- let's skate Templeton skate park if you come up!
Keepin' it real

Mike,
there was Slalom racing long before your time. Regarding records for most wins in a single season, I think the greatest racer of them all, John Hutson holds the record. In one season he entered 14 races. He won 11, took second twice and had one third. He podiumed at every race of the season back in the ARA Series era. It will take quite a long time, if ever before someone beats his record.
Sincerely, Cliff Coleman
PS Paul Dunn is an awesome racer!

So, he's back! The man, the myth, the skater without a team...Paul Dunn. heheh Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you still hold the record for most wins in a season? 2002 right...
Glad to have you back buddy. : ), if you need any advice on set ups, lemme know. I'd be glad to get you up to speed on what's working these days and what's not. I know how you skate and you know how I do...
BTW, I'll be up your way this weekend. Maybe, just maybe, we can find time to knock a couple coldies back? Or run some cones, or skate the Templeton skatepark...I'll call ya.

wuddup MM-
Right on, 3rd at JPL.. I bet you would've won on a nice stiff ConeKillerGS...instead of the flexer you rode...oh well, no worries, bust out the GS deck for the next PumpStation and win again bro! Don't let the vulture try to bring you down...Look towards the light-and you won't be brought down by the dark side again. Ha, ha. Good words of encouragement, huh? Everyone knows that you are one of-if not THE best all-around racers on the planet.

Dave & Mike,
Thanks for your reply. I'm looking forward to giving them a try.
Those of you about my age remember the unadulterated skate porn of the Kanoa and Val Surf adds. The only thing that made that interesting was VARIETY. Am I remembering correctly that it wasn't graphics back then, but size and shape?Skaterbuilt has provided some of that much needed variety in other areas of skating already, along with Bulldog's retro stuff, Kebbek, Landyachtz, Comet, etc.
Now I'm not ever going to set the world on fire with my racing, but if I've made a contribution (other than being a jester to my royal friends) it has been in helping get people started. Being able to set up new guys with a race worthy deck has been a challenge.
Roe broke the $100 price barrier with the performance series but for those outside our circle their looks were minimalist. Chicken's Hardcore has been incredibly popular and rightfully so. Differnt shapes and sizes, graphics to spice things up a little and at $60 shipped it's a bargain. The fact that people are winning races on them is just a bonus.
I'm looking forward to Skaterbuilts CK'S because the name is already recognized within group of skaters ripe to join our ranks, the old school bowl rider. It's shape, with kicks and concave, will feel familiar underfoot, and perhaps accelerate those riders understanding and enjoyment of slalom. There are more than a dozen of those 30-40 year olds here in CT, with more finding their way back all the time. It's been hard to crack them because they don't think slalom is GNAR, but I think they are going to dig these boards!
I could be wrong. I may be blinded by the fact that the Cone Killers are just badass. Of course it's just a bonus that people are winning races on them.
Looking forward to boards from Bulldog, Fatboy, Sector Nine, Kanoa, and Val Surf.
Joe

Hey Joe I-Maysey coulda won Pumpstation riding a door with trucks and wheels! The ConeKiller-appropriately named by you Joe-is gonna trip a lot of the slalom purists' and theorists' out of their minds. The scoffers out won't wanna ride camber-flex decks anymore cuz they feel so slow-like a surfboard with a loose and flexy fin...just kiddin' who knows? But I'm stoked on em'. All I really can say about the CK's-is point em'...and GO. No waiting for anything-and the Bellmar pool deck concave works perfect. The CK's TS come out next week! Then the Hybrid and GS model will be ready in a couple of weeks.

Slalom How To

I've got a really good "Starting Point 2" video with Andy Mac that's helped me with my tranny skillz, not that they're all that good or anything but...
I was just thinking, yesterday on the way home from work, that a slalom how-to video might be kinda cool. For example, the hardest thing to explain in a forum like this is pumping. For me, it's much easier if I can see someone do it. After all, I learned early on from watching Paul Dunn and Jack Smith run courses, set courses and set up boards. These days Steve Evans and I have been working together developing ideas, set-ups and riding techniques to increase speed and accuracy. I understand that not everyone has someone like these guys to skate with, which is why I was thinking of doing something like a video to give the basics that each individual rider could utilize to take his/her slalom to the next level.
Understand something though, there are details I can spill, but I'm not gonna give it all away, no matter how much you pay for the video...well I might give it away to the highest bidder! hehe, anyway...
