War and US Comps
On 3/20/2003 Mike Maysey wrote in from (67.121.nnn.nnn)

I don't see the war as really having much impact on the US races. Other than maybe making people really think twice about getting on a plane to fly to one. I know it won't effect me too much since I'll be driving to most of the races this season with the exception of Breck.

Hey Sully,
Thanks for the wish. Sunday...let's see, isn't there going to be some 'other' happening instead of GGP?

Top Secret...

I'm just getting tired of the smell Mike... someone's got to tip them off! (Or did you mean all that disinformation about wheel trimming?)

Avalon Trimming
On 3/19/2003 Mike Maysey wrote in from (67.121.nnn.nnn)

On the note of trimming the inside...I think I've seen some people do that, but for me I leave it alone. It's a good lip and provides grip on the inside better than a flat back wheel...at least I think so. Some people may trim the backs so they fit on Indy/Tracker Offset trucks...since I don't use either of those trucks at present, I don't cut the inner lip off.

Wheel trimming EVANS style...
On 3/19/2003 Miko wrote in from (66.81.nnn.nnn)

I hope this isn't divulging anything Evans would want to keep secret, but you should see how he trims them. I saw his wheel stash and it was a thing of wonder...

Flashbacks and Avalons are both narrowed, or at the very least reformed into a beautiful smooth acute lip, much like the full Avalon. I think they even had curved (concave). I'm curious just how different it makes the Flashbacks behave? Steve... could you comment on this?

He also has a cool anti-bacterial spray that kills pad odor, which I haven't been able to find anywhere. The guy really IS a pro! (and a bro... )

Avalons
On 3/19/2003 Mike Maysey wrote in from (67.121.nnn.nnn)

Here's how I measure...I take the Avalon off the trucks, put it outside lip up and line up a Cambria. Make a little line all the way around. GO TO TOWN...start carvin' those babies down. If you have the right tool, you can put a lip back on 'em once you get them to the width you want.

Thanks for the B-Day Wishes All!!

Birthday Avalons
On 3/19/2003 Stevie wrote in from (67.120.nnn.nnn)

Happy birthday Mike! Apparently you have the same birthday as my oldest daughter who just turned 8 today. We'll save you a piece of cake.

Trimming the Avalons for tight - does anyone evert trim the inside lip? I hear about squaring off the outer lip - how far do you go? I guess I'll start experimenting on mine and begin with a 6mm lip to allow me to come in further later if I still want to.

Avalons
On 3/19/2003 Mike Maysey wrote in from (67.121.nnn.nnn)

I ride trimmed and non-trimmed Avalons. I have some full lip I use in GS...or did until the Avila came out. Now I ride only slightly trimmed Avalons(stock trim) for hybrid and fast, straight 'tight' courses like the World Champ MB course. I have some Avalons that I've cut way down for charging fast tight....they're as narrow as a Cambria, well almost.

I feel Mahvelous...
On 3/19/2003 Miko wrote in from (64.174.nnn.nnn)

Well... I'm not as old as Cliff... but I'm much balder. 50 years in August! I'll celebrate up at the FCR Tahoe race.

The ribs are good... and the BMW is fixed to the tune of ~$900 bucks that I didn't have! But I'm back on the road intimidating motorists once again. We've got an awesome night run up at UCSC that you guys should come down for. It's lit, and over a mile long, through redwoods and probably will go about 40mph.

I was out with Mark Johnson today on some steep-ass hill... pendulum after pendulum. Bad surface though... I gave it up to save a bit of rubber. We even went and ran some cones after that!

Eli... do you ride a Comet Gary Cross? If so, you're good to go for the Slalom Cross race and you'll be used to it as well. Tracker RTX/RTS would be my trucks of choice. Crank down the bearings though so you'll feel safer... I know speed is sorta scary for you. I'm really digging the new Comet speedboard! Are you guys able to ride friday sometime? I may be able to make it up... email me!

Eli,
If I were you...I'd ride a longish slalom board with Indy's or Trackers and big wheels...It's not going to be super fast. You won't need Randals. Top speeds will probably be about 20-25...

Downhilling is cinchy...
On 3/18/2003 Miko wrote in from (66.81.nnn.nnn)

Eli... you are such a WOMP!

I'm afraid you aren't going to be able to use the "slalom is hard" excuse much longer. You seemed to be getting pretty damned fast at the Worlds.

Still game for some S.C. downhilling if you get down this way.
