I didn't get any medals (didn't deserve any either).
But I did get a check for setting up the timing for the weekend, and that was an unexpected benefit.

Salem BBQ sounds awesome - thanks again Pauli!
Hoping it won't clash with the Ultraskate, but if it does I'll just come down and nap in the park. Don't plan around it if that weekend works best for the BBQ, the weather tends to get pretty iffy in October -- and we're planning to postpone until we have a surefire 24-hours of dry asphalt.

Something in Salem in October

OK, BBQ and Slalomcross it is! As per the format of the State Games Slalomcross, the riders will NOT cross courses(unless they space-off which course they're supposed to be in). I'd like to keep the flow going and have simple rules like:
1) Miss a cone or downhill gate and you DQ that run. 2) Some arbitrary but reasonable number of cones not hit and your run is good but if you hit more than that amount you're run is a DQ. First to the finish wins. This can be with timers if someone (other than me) wants to run timers but can easily be done without timers. 3) For the sake of more runs and more flow, just do silly challenge and grudge matches with no real order of riders, race as much as you like or just go down the course and have fun.
Just my 2 Cents -P

Michael went 7.528 going south and 8.410 going north for an average of 7.969 -- a new world record in the ISSA sanctioned 25-cone NCDSA cyberslalom.
He was too tired to try the 50-cone course.
Dave Mitchell (the older Dave Mitchell) showed up too -- what a nice surprise.
Congratulations Michael!

I would prefer the 2 courses that do not intersect -- especially if it is "unofficial" racing.
My fear would be that an unofficial slalomcross would lead to too many collisions because some people will be practicing, some racing, starting at different times, etc.
But I'm a wimp right now and am VERY wary of any kind of collision or fall as I'm recovering from shoulder surgery.

October BBQ Vs Slalomcross Vs Both

Hey, Everyone seemed to have fun with the State Games slalomcross in Salem.
Anyone have any thoughts about doing Slalomcross for the October Salem event?
I thought about something like this: we can still BBQ and have some simple rule like 5 cones = you're good, 6 cones = you're out, first to the finish and not DQ wins and just race according to silly challenges and grudge matches with no real "hard" race order all whilst stuffing ourselves with BBQ.
Or we could slalomcross race for "real" - and not get as much riding in, not that I'm saying anything, ....just say'n, and no BBQ.
Or we could do the traditional BBQ of 2 separate lanes of a big spaced G/S-ish course and a smaller General/Hybrid-ish course.
Please post here, Thanks -P

For those of you coming down for the flat-course race this Sunday:
After the race I will be grilling burgers, tossing salad, opening bottles, and cutting fruit at my house for the hungry skaters.
Let me know if you plan to attend so I can grocery shop accordingly....

James - Scott whacked his head about a week(?) ago at Mt Tabor with a 4 guy pack run, some inattendant pedestrians and some wet pavement. Pedestians were OK, one skater passed through, the other 3 including Scott went down. Scott had a helmet fortunately but obliterated the back of the helmet. I saw him yesterday to go shoot some archery and he's pretty well recovered.
Skip - Nice Work!!
Cat - I'll have to check that out. By the way, Cheyenne got some cement added to their park and it's super functional including a kidney pool that bends to the right.
BBQ? - Hmm, Why does everyone think I'm doing a BBQ in the fall? We'll see, if I have the time and am not out bowhunting I'll see what I can come up with. If I do, I'm thinking it will probably be a rather small affair again but I'll see about getting a contest code # from Adam just in case.
